Ahgua Murry

d. July 28, 2024

Ahgua Chen Powell Murry was born August 29, 1938, in Taiwan, and passed away peacefully July 28, 2024, at her home in DeRidder, LA, at the age of 85. From the age of 7, she worked in her uncle’s Taiwanese opera troupe, and became one of the stars of the show. She ended her career at the age of 19 after meeting an American soldier who she married. They raised 4 children as they traveled to their many duty stations. They were transferred to Fort Polk in November 1973, and made their home in DeRidder. Ahgua was very impatient, industrious, intelligent, generous, strong, determined, and kind. Although she had no formal education, she learned to read and write some English as her children learned. She studied diligently and proudly became a U.S. citizen while stationed in Virginia in the early 1960s. She was able to effectively run her household, manage finances, and raise her children; she often did this alone as her husband was deployed. She also managed the Gold Bond Stamp Redemption Center in DeRidder, LA, for several years. She loved to garden, crochet, play cards, play bingo, and feed people her delicious food. She will be lovingly remembered by her children. Les Powell, Weslie Powell and Kristi, Joan Friend and Clarence; son-in-law Michael Lapeyrouse; step-daughter Teresa Howell; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother; 1 sister; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband of 31 years, Shelby Powell; second husband of 16 years, Glen Murry; daughter Judy Lapeyrouse; and 2 sisters. Family will receive friends Thursday, August 1 from 5-9pm at Chaddick Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Friday, August 2 at 10am at Chaddick Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.  Rev. Tim Bergen will officiate. Condolences can be made at chaddickfuneralhome.com
