Frank Norris Hensley, Jr. was born November 29, 1946 to Frank N. Hensley, Sr. and Frances Alma Williams in DeRidder, Louisiana and passed from this life on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
He has touched so many lives throughout his lifetime. He answered the call to ministry and was ordained on February 26, 1978. He pastored and/or served as interim in churches and around DeRidder, LA, no matter the title over the door. He served as Pastor at Midway Baptist Church, Congregational Methodist Church, Sandy Hill Baptist Church, and was Pastor of Ludington Baptist Church. Frank served as Music Minister at DeRidder Nazarene Church. He had a beautiful baritone voice and sang in several groups, his proudest was “The Lords Ambassadors”.
Frank served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964-1967 and was a very proud veteran. He got an honorary high school diploma from Gov. Kathleen Blanco on August 16, 2007 because he had to quit school and went into the USMC in order to provide for his family.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 27 in DeRidder, and the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVA) #1138, serving as Secretary.
Frank was known by his family as “Little Jr” and many today still call him Junior. Frank worked in several places throughout his life: Calcasieu Mercantile, Billups, Ashland Oil Co, and Beauregard Parish Police Jury twice, retiring in January 2013. He went back to work for Beauregard Council on Aging in January 2019 and made many friends. He enjoyed working for BCOA which in turn became a ministry to him.
He married the love of his life, Charlotte Ann Holliday on March 5, 1994. Where you saw one, you usually saw both. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte H. Hensley of DeRidder, LA; two sons, Darin Hensley & Belinda of DeRidder, LA and Norris Hensley of DeRidder, LA; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Connell & Rick of Minnesota; two step-sons, James W. Slater of DeRidder, LA and Billy Dean McEwin II of Midland, TX; three step-daughters, Sandra Slater Collins & Greg of New Bern, NC, Sherry McEwin Fullen & David of Mexia, TX and Tracey McEwin Embrey & Willie of Midland, TX; one brother, George Curtis Stephens & Patsy of DeSoto, TX; one sister, Maxine Schales & Merlin of DeRidder, LA; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four special great-nieces and one nephew, Kenli, Kennedy, Braylee, Ellie Jo, and Trace.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Norris Hensley, Sr.; mother, Frances Alma Williams Shell; maternal grandparents, I.D. & Bessie Williams; and paternal grandparents, John & Della Hensley.
Visitation will be Friday, August 20 from 5-9pm and Saturday, August 21 from 10am until time of service at Ludington Baptist Church. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 21 at 2pm at Ludington Baptist Church. Interment will be at Lewis Cemetery. Rev. George Lee Glass and Rev. Kenneth Gibson will officiate.
