George Edward Dauzat, 77, of Pitkin, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his home. Visitation will be Friday, July 17, starting at 5pm, and Saturday, July 18, from 9am until time of service at First Baptist Church in Pitkin. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 18, at 4pm at FBC Pitkin. Interment will be at Blue Branch Cemetery. Rev. Jeremy McCrory and Rev. Hardy Estes will officiate.
George was a graduate of Pitkin High School, and a life-long member of the Cattleman’s Association. He was a café owner for 13 years. He retired from Boise Cascade, where he was an electrician. Mr. George served nearly 23 years on the Calcasieu Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors and was Chairman of the Board for many years. He held the positions of Board member, Secretary Treasurer, LACD Area III Director, and was currently serving as LACD Area III Vice-President.
He also received the LACD Guy Caire Award in 2011. As an acknowledgment for his Legislative efforts, the Calcasieu SWCD received the President’s 2011 Legislative Award, which hasn’t been given since.
All of George’s friends and colleagues value his contribution as a leader in efforts to protect and conserve the state’s natural resources for the benefit of current and future Louisianans. He was a great asset for the Calcasieu Soil & Water Districts and LACD and will be greatly missed.
George was a member of First Baptist Church in Pitkin.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Ann Dauzat of Pitkin; daughter, Melissa Thetford & Josh of Pitkin; two sons, Allan Dauzat & Jolene of Pitkin, and Craig Dauzat & Odeila “Punky” of Pitkin; seven grandchildren, Tasha Bass, Stacey Lane Dauzat, Chance King, Luke Rasberry, Brody Dauzat, Caitlin Thetford, and Dakota Wiggins; five great-grandchildren, Toby Poe, Noah Tibbitts, Carleigh Tibbitts, Emma Wiggins, and Rowan Wiggins; brother, Clebert Dauzat, Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clebert, Sr. & Essie Dauzat; brother, Curtis Martin; and sister, Marcia Lee Dauzat.
