Mary Katherine Flaherty

Mary Katherine Flaherty, 76, of DeRidder, LA passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025. Visitation will be Friday, June 6 from 6-9pm at Chaddick Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 7 at 11am at Chaddick Funeral Home. Interment will be at Whitaker Cemetery. Rev. George Lee Glass will officiate.

Mary is survived by her three children, Mystle Morvan & Perry of DeRidder, LA, Staci Daniels & Lisa of DeRidder, LA, and Angela Pinter & Rob of Union, MS; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Mahaffey of DeRidder, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie L. Flaherty; and parents, Bobby Ray & Corrine Simmons.

Mary Katherine (Simmons) Flaherty is a single woman, who was born and raised in the small town of DeRidder, LA, where she continues to reside. Katherine grew up in the rural area of DeRidder, where she learned to love the natural beauty of her country surroundings at a very early age. She captured the beauty in her heart until she could capture it with photography for others to appreciate. She specializes in Nature, Landscapes, and Florals. Katherine also found herself naturally versed in poetry and short stories and has since been published. At the age of 23, Katherine was honored as a hero by her hometown of DeRidder and presented the key to the city for her act of bravery in saving a 3-year-old child from drowning. Among many hobbies Katherine loves to “Tee-Up” and play a few rounds of golf where she once hit a “hole-in-one” while playing in a ladies tournament at the DeRidder Municipal Golf Course.
