Verbia J. Long, 95, of DeRidder, LA passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023.  Visitation will be Friday, November 10 from 10am-12pm at Chaddick Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Friday, November 10 at 12pm at Chaddick Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Hyatt Cemetery.  Rev. Sherluff Leslie and Rev. Gary Ford will officiate. Verbia J. Long, a resident of DeRidder, LA, for the last 34 years, was born on January 20, 1928 in DeQuincy, LA, to the union of Onie Weaver Long and Jackson Long.  He was a resident of Moss Bluff for many, many years. Serving in the United States Marine Corp during World War II was one of his proudest achievements.  After leaving the Marine Corps, he worked as a carpenter.  Eventually, he was self-employed and used those skills to build homes in Moss Bluff where his son was his chief helper.  In conjunction with that, he became a machinist at Cities Service Refinery.  He retired from Cities Service in 1990. Verbia is survived by his wife, Barbara Long of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Pamela Barrow & Bill of Dallas, TX; son, Eugene Long & Mary Ann of Moss Bluff, LA; six grandchildren, Matthew Richard of Westlake, LA, Cody Richard & Alisha of Moss Bluff, LA, Dustin Richard & Shonna of Ragley, LA, Crystal Long of Moss Bluff, LA, Rachel Barrow of Commerce, TX and Philip Barrow & Elise of Forney, TX; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Onie Long; wife of 54 years, Maxine Long; daughter, Sheila Richard; three sisters, Virgie Leslie, Verda Elson, and Velton Vincent; and two brothers, Virgial Long and Vernon Long.
